Our office physicians carefully trim and file the thickened toenails down to each patient comfort level usually without any pain or discomfort.

Causes
Exposure to virus HPV(human papillomo virus)
Usually in public showers, pools
Genetics
Symptoms
Raised lesion with black dots that bleed easily
Pain on compression of lesion more so than direct pressure
Can appear similar in appearance to calluses
Typically occur on bottom of feet or hands
Treatment
Debridement(removing tissue) of wart
Application of Topicals
OTC(over the counter) such as salicylic acid and freeze spray
Chemical Destruction: chemical derived from a beetle applied directly to wart; causes local reaction and blister. Very effective treatment for warts and does not require local anesthesia.
Surgical Removal:
In office Excision(surgical removal of wart) and Electrocautery(burning tissue) which removes any remaining warty tissue and reduces post-op bleeding.

Exposure to Fungus in environment
Hyperhidrosis(excessive sweating)
Working in Wet environments
Symptoms
Itchy, dry skin usually on bottom of foot and/or inter-spaces
May have surrounding redness(erythema)
May have tiny vesicles(tiny blisters that appear as eczema, but drain pus colored fluid)
Treatment
Prescription topical creams
If severe, prescription oral medications may be needed

Thursday: No office hours. Hospital surgery.
