Ingrown Toenail

Common Causes:

  • Genetics

  • Improperly fitting shoe gear

  • Injuries to toenail like stubbing or jamming

  • Running

Symptoms:

  • Pain to nail border

  • Swelling and/or redness around nail border

  • Drainage in the form of clear fluid and sometimes pus

  • Pain in toe with shoe gear

  • Most common in Great toe, but occurs in all toes

Treatment

Home Treatment:

  • Soaking in warm, not hot, water with epsom salts for 10-15 minutes daily

  • Application of topical antibiotic such as bacitracin or triple antibiotic ointment

  • Wear open-toed shoe gear

Office Treatment:

  • In office nail procedure, under local anesthesia, which involves surgically removing the painful nail border at the root.

    • Antibiotics are very rarely necessary due to surgical procedure removing infected tissue.

  Hours of Operation:

Monday: 7:00am - 6:30pm

Tuesday: 7:00am - 3:00pm

Wednesday: 7:00am - 4:30pm

Thursday: No office hours. Hospital surgery.

Friday: 7:00am - 1:00pm
