Heel Pain

Common Causes

  • Overuse of the Heel. For example standing on hard surfaces for long periods of time.

  • Injury to the Heel

  • Exercising without proper stretching. Starting an exercise program after years of being sedentary

  • Wearing improper fitting shoe gear or WORN OUT shoe gear

Symptoms

  • Pain located on bottom or back of heel

  • Stiffness and/or swelling in heel

  • Burning/Stinging

Related Conditions:

Plantar Fasciitis: Inflammation of the band of tissue(ligament) that connects the heel bones to the toes which causes pain in the bottom of the heel

Symptoms:

  1. Pain on the BOTTOM of the heel

  2. Stiffness

  3. Swelling

  4. Burning/Stinging

Achilles Tendinitis(Insertional): Inflammation of the achilles tendon that connects the calf muscle to the posterior(back) of the heel bone.

Symptoms:

  1. Pain on the BACK of the heel

  2. Pain when ‘pushing off’ or going up/down stairs

  3. Stiffness/Swelling along achilles tendon

Treatment

Our treatments start with custom arch strappings made for each individual patient that are worn for 2-3 weeks initially. The majority of patients have improvement from this treatment. Once improvement is achieved, Custom Orthotics are fitted for each individual patient to provide long-lasting relief. However, if improvement is not achieved, we have many more treatment options available including steroid injections and prescription oral medications.

  Hours of Operation:

Monday: 7:00am - 6:30pm

Tuesday: 7:00am - 3:00pm

Wednesday: 7:00am - 4:30pm

Thursday: No office hours. Hospital surgery.

Friday: 7:00am - 1:00pm
